Gone vs. Went

Gone is an -n sound verb.  It requires a form of have (has, had, have).

They have gone to Phoenix for the game.
He has gone to Phoenix for the game.

Went is the past tense of go.  It does not use am or a form of have.

They went to Phoenix for the game..
She went to Phoenix for the game.
